The Rainbow – A Covenant with God

Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. Genesis 9:16

What God promises, he won’t break it. After every heavy rain, there’s a rainbow. It appears during the transition of rain to sun. After a dark sky, a rainbow is beautiful to look at.

God used this rainbow to remind his people that his promises will be fulfilled and he will never change. In the book of Genesis, Noah experienced the complete flooding of the earth, wiping out all human and animal life except for one remnant – Noah, his family and the animals in the ark. He promised Noah, and every descendant after him that he would never do that again.

“Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds, and I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures. Never again will the floodwaters destroy all life. When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.” Genesis 9:12-17 NLT

As long as we see rainbows in the sky, we know and believe that flood like that won’t happen again. Same as in our life, as we face trials and storms, we must remember that God’s promises will always shine like rainbows. God’s love and mercy will always in our side. He will never break that. He will never abandon us, his just there to hold our hands and guide us. Trials are test that we have to pass. His love and mercy surrounds us. Jesus promised to never leave us and we already have a place, where there is no crying or pain. The Holy spirit is there to protect and intercede in our behalf.

God loves his people, his promises are beautiful as rainbows that remind his covenant to his children. Remember, our life may be unfair but God is not. Trust his plans and his ways. They are as evident and as real as a rainbow in the sky.
